The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 又是一部看起来全程都很刺激都很大制作但是会让人看睡着的电影，同样是反派，埃文斯在这部里的人格魅力不如《利刃出鞘》里“definitely shit”的百分之一

7｜看看，这就是女性的生存现状，希望所有男性观看。片子本身还行，第一幕太长了，整体节奏有点失控，结尾彻底泄气。这种把观众当傻子的结尾我真的受不了….有佳句而无佳章…（这是什么未来罪行预热吗哈哈哈（还好我是healing vacation回来再去看的这片，反过来我在直接cancel all the bookings然后拉起窗帘关起门自己躲在家了
电影是想告诉我们所有男人都是一个样子的？满脑子里都是x？只有让他们反复体会女性的生育之苦才能将他们蜕变？看了电影我没有答案，因为我根本也没有提问，因为我根本不能解决他人的问题，也不能改变他人的想法，就像在隧道里的回响，重复，单调，渗人，又有点美感，周而复始。大自然之美，星空之浩瀚，人类之渺小，至于人类的那些争执与矛盾，困惑与愚钝，自私与狭隘，更加渺小，微不足道。
心理惊悚类型，氛围营造很足，但惊悚都是点到即止，攒了个前戏？
2.5 感觉整趟旅行就像是《寂静岭》式治愈心病的过程，也可以说在教堂里祈祷了不该触碰的神灵或是心怪？最后接连俄罗斯套娃孵化人的镜头实在特别诡异，能否理解成女主为了安慰内心，将丈夫一层层包裹起来？风格依旧是A24的王牌，尖锐的配乐视听风格犹如《女巫》《灯塔》《北欧人》。
单性繁殖的怪物，写满了基因的谬误，索要世上最昂贵的礼物，用蛮横的姿态，无理的态度。
2亿美元现在只能带来CGI的粗制滥用和敷衍的摄影与剪辑成品吗？
6.27 “男人都不是什么好东西”，把男权的压迫具象化为一个个独立个体，表达是有的，结尾妊娠套娃的cult质感也很变态，可就是太垮了……前半个小时真的快睡死了

A24掉入了对Arthouse Horror的疯狂执念中了。不过虽然内在的缺陷明显，奇观/元素随意堆砌，但是影像视听风格塑造得独具一格我就已经挺满意了（谁不想在一个雨夜沉浸在这样的视听和视觉里呢）【但是希望Ari Aster的新作品别这样】
把千男一面进行了极富想象力的视觉呈现。它并不会利用惯常的恐怖桥段去渲染气氛，单纯复现女性会遭遇的一切就已经足够恐怖，男性极度自我所带来的压迫恶意也已足够骇人。结尾足够猛。
没有遗憾的遗憾，只能说对本片自始至终没有报太高的期待。那些所谓“俗套”看着亲切就好，从路人的角度来看都还行，这就挺好。
要不是因为有这几个演员，谁看啊，不对，这拍的我都快不认识他们了，罗素兄弟近两年拍的真让人感到迷惑
